I don’t know what it is, mayber her Simulated Personality OS, or possibly her superior breed of nanomachines, whatever it is, I love her. KP-X 00-00-00-00-1 is definitely my favourite Special Humanoid Anti-Gnosis Annihilation Weapon. Introducing the fourth incarnation of the anti-Gnosis tactic system Kosmos Obey Strategic Multiple Operation Systems, or KOS-MOS, as seen in Xenosaga Episode III: Thus Spoke Zarathustra. This figure has not been kind to me. After I payed a reasonable price for it on auctions, it was re-released for a much more affordable price…well, that’s just my luck. However, being that is is KOS-MOS, I’m still happy, because she is one of my favourite fictional characters, but also because she is one BEAUTIFUL figure. The kind you just wanna rip out of its package and display, or actually display in the package, since it comes in a nicely designed, completely see-through plastic box.

This is my first figure from Alter and I am glad to see they lived up to all the good things I have heard about them, so glad. I’ll get my complaint out of the way right now, her nose, but I don’t really fault them, Xenosaga III’s art style reverted to a strange…anime/realistic mix of the first and second games’ graphical stylings, which looked wonderful, but the noses kind of had a vagueness to them…or something…Heheh. Recreated here by Alter. The sculpt overall is wonderful though, very detailed and smooth. The hair is FIERCE, for lack of a better word. I love that they always use a translucent plastic for her hair, it suits the character well. It is, essentially, a perfect representation of her appearance in Xenosaga III.

As for the paint applications…well, they are spot on and…

…so well done…

…with wonderfully accuracy and attention to detail.

The metallic parts in her suit and gattling gun are the perfect tone. There are very few cases of overlap or drip or anything of the like, and nothing very noticeable. The multiple shading tones on her sleeves, skin, dress and leggings give subtle detail without going over the top (someone teach Square Enix how to do this).

I enjoy the minimalistic white stand that she has too, I believe Alter’s T-elos has one too which ties them together well and the simple design fits with some of the imagery in the videogame.

Yeah, so, in conclusion. This figure is must-get. If you are a Xenosaga fan then why is this not on your shelf (and if it is, good job)!?

You owe it to yourself if you are a JRPG fan to play this game (atleast Episode 3, anyway).

So this is a  1/10 scale PVC figure by Kotobukiya. I love the character designs for Persona 3 so when I found out this figure existed I hunted it down all night long (found it for $32 on some small web shop that still had it in stock, it might have been re-released or something now though, I see it popping up on eBay again). This is the first heavily anime styled Kotobukiya statue I’ve gotten since the FFVII 1/8 Resins, and I am pretty impressed. The sculpt’s resemblance to the character is uncanny and the paint application is wonderful down to the tiny details. I find it strange that Kotobukiya can get the paint done better on a tiny 1/10 scale figure like this than on some of their larger scale figures that I have seen.

He comes with two interchangeable right arms. One is extended outward and holds a tarot card, while the other aims his iconic and gun-like Evoker in the general direction of his head, in the pre-suicidal pose Persona 3 is so recognizable for. The Evoker is removable from his hand. The arm stays in securely but is not a hassle to remove/reinsert.

The belt with the (non functioning) Evoker holster is also removable (he seperates conveniently and easily at the waist). The belt itself is meticulously detailed like the rest of him, with “stitching” details, buttons, loops, and a precisely painted belt buckle.

The baubles and buttons on his jacket are detailed with paint and print, with an accurate recreation of his S.E.E.S. left arm band. The zipper is painted expertly with a metallic silver. The sculpt is beautiful as I said before, especially for such a small scale. The pose may be a little static but it fits the character and the game. The base isn’t worth photographing, just a blue plastic slab with the tarot print on it, cut in half. I believe someone told me it fits together with Akihiko’s base so that the characters stand back to back, but I haven’t picked up Akihiko yet to confirm it.

I’ve been meaning to upload these for months. I’ve started playing Persona 3 again which gave me the drive to stop slacking on the blog for a day ^^

This is the polystone Aerith from the Square Enix Sculpture Arts line. It stands about 17 inches tall, and most of that is the base and the lifestream stuff. Overall, it’s a very beautiful piece of work. The sculpt of Aerith herself is pretty well done, despite the size and despite that fact that it is a Square Enix product. I am not used to polystone figures and I am not sure if it has something to do with that but her face has this sort of…rough texture, which kind of bothers me, but that is only if you get too close to notice it, and this is a figure meant for putting in a display case and admiring it from outside, so that isn’t really a major issue. There are a few minor paint application errors, which again I will mostly attribute to the size and medium (she’s so small and mostly one piece) but again they aren’t very noticeable unless taking a close up look. Some people complain about her knees…they don’t bother me at all though. The hair is well done and I love the pose, even if it is sort of static the fact that she is floating just makes it all better. Most of these errors are with just with Aerith herself though. The base is amazing. Starting with the clear bits of green life stream flowing out around her, the base keep getting better. The paint is very detailed and the base has a very lifelike look to it. The sculpting is excellent as well, with suspend broken steps and everything, creases in the rails and decals look great. The whole thing balances on a crumbling pillar that looks fantastic and stands in a clear basin of “water.” It would almost steal the show if the completeness of the scene didn’t require Aerith. Together I think they mesh beautifully for a high end sculpture. But with a price tag of $220.00 USD I’d of course only recommend it to die-hard (lol) Aerith fans. And it gets me even more excited for the Balthier & Fran Sculpture Art due out this summer. I do accept donations for my addiction.

As you can tell I enjoy doing the picture part of the review much more than the writing part. x3

So, I know I said the Aerith Sculpture was coming first, but, well, this came instead. She’s still coming, maybe later tonight.

So, Canada Post left some slips in my mail box that said I had to wait a day to go pick up the packages that they tried to deliver while I was out. Imagine that, waiting! I hate waiting! So anyway…

So I don’t know how these reviews are normally done but…I’ll just go through some picturess and point out what me likey and what me no likey.

So the face sculpt is really impressive, if you ask me. I think I was reading somewhere when the game creators saw the prototype they said “This IS Dante,” and I have to agree. Sure the face doesn’t over all look as good as the prototype, but let’s face it (har har), they don’t usually (and apparently especially not Kotobukiya). Despite that though, it still looks great. Rearry grood (Better than the in-game model, lol).

The paint details on the mouth and the eyes are very well done, Dante’s got a great glare, just like he should. However, as you can probably see in the picture, the paint details for shadowing can seem a little too defined when looking at it up close, but they do a great jop of conveying the bags under his eyes when taking a step back and looking at the figure as a whole (which is normally what I do, I don’t stare longingly close into his eyes for hours, so it’s allllll good, for me. …No seriously, I don’t!).
As for his hair, I absolutely love the way it turned out, they made a good choice on the paint tone and the sculpting details are great.

Point that thing somewhere else, would you?

Epicness. I really liked the background from the interior of his box, I used it in four photoshoots today, lol. I need to buy some real backgrounds. And a tripod. >.>

As you can see, the paint applications and the sculpt for the rest of the figure are just as good, the details are impressive, from the zipper on his jacket to the buckles on his jacket’s belt, all the way down to his boots. The folds in his clothing have a realistic flow to them and his jacket tails look great. The only problem I really have with the rest of the body again is the “shadow” paint applications which are also found on the hands, but once again are fine with a little bit of distance, but if you look too close they look a little awkward. Nothing to cry about though. The rest of his hands, fingernails, gloves, are ridonkulously well done.

Dante has painted on abs, I don’t know why he bothers, he always gets the girl anyway, maybe he likes Twinkies too much (The paint tones look good though, fangirls should be happy).

Dante comes with his trusty guns Ebony & Ivory, and of course the badass sword that is Rebellion (with inter-changeable hands so that you can mix and match the weapons, and the gun holsters on his back are fully functional)!

The base is a nice touch as well, worn down faux stone tiles and Dante perches atop the body of a defeated Hell Vanguard, declaring his badassery. The Vanguard is considerably well detailed for being part of the base. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the plastic bottom base piece is hollow and thing, like an upside down plastic plate, and seems kind of flimsy compared to what is sitting on top of its structure.

Well that’s pretty much all I have to say about this, no pantsu shot, sorry! Seeing as my two confirmed readers are girls though,

And on to the most pressing topic for today

THE BIG MOVE!

So on Thursday, May 22nd, I had lunch with a good friend of mine, but before that we took her daughter to the pet store to buy a female betta (or Siamese fighting fish, if you prefer) for her. Being the impulse shopper that I am, it was a very OMG WANT moment. And that is how my new baby Ryuk came into my life.

Well, the very knowledgeable staff member at Petsmart sold me this little “betta kit” thing with a tiny bowl, some gravel, and one fake plant.

Well, I got this little thing called the INTERNETS. So I did me some internets reading. Wikipedia and shits, knawimean? Those Petsmart biatches ain’t got nothing on Wikipedia. I also found some useful forums where people could post picturs of their tanks and long time owners could help them out. I forget the link though, lol. Anyway, I found out he needs more plants to hide behind, and a bigger tank would be much better for him, the small tank thing is really inhumane. I saw this lavalamp that you put a betta in at Walmart. And another lamp-ish betta bowl that was disturbingly small. Disgusting. So anyway, being the impulse buy that I am, I got my Ryukie the hook ups. This little pimp has got 10 GALLONS OF FREEDOM. Okay, so that may not seem like a lot, but 10 gallons is a lot of freedom for one little betta fish, especially when you compare to it THIS MONSTROSITY. Look at that poor thing. He’s not lucky enough to have an owner like me. I also got him like $40 worth of fake plants and a little asian-y bridge.

So anyway, I spent hours yesterday getting this thing all set up, cleaning the tank, cleaning the gravel, putting together the filter, getting the water treated (yay STRESS COAT!), taping the background on, installing the tropical heater. It was intense. But today, after the 24 hour “wait” period while the filter broke in and the water got de-chlorinated (and de-all that bad stuff’d), it certainly payed off.

Little Ryuk has been swimming all about it for hours of bliss now, and he still comes to say “O hai, I ish can has apples now?” when I talk to him, so living in his new mansion hasn’t inflated his ego one bit.
